I picked this book up in the airport bookstore after reading about it in a mag.
It's composed of block quotes from the people who lived and worked with him, who loved him and tried to help him -- and in the end, gave up on him completely.
I have never, NEVER read such a compelling story of addiction -- I read the whole thing on the airplane, and haven't stopped thinking about it. It's ironic that a man who spent his life trying to make people laugh would leave behind such a devastating story.
Mail it to me. I just read an equally resounding send off in the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/01/books/review/Keepnews-t.html?ref=review
